The goal of special education in the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is to help students achieve the curriculum to the best of their ability and to become as independent as possible as they do so. Special education teachers are expected to have good job opportunities, which will stem from the need to replace teachers who leave the occupation each year. Creative – To meet each student’s unique learning style and instructional preference, many special education teachers must come up with inventive methods to utilize the resources on hand in a variety of ways. A variety of stand-alone Special Education certifications are also offered online at Saint Joseph’s University. They adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, to students with mild and moderate disabilities. In-class support funding provides teacher aide funding to primary or secondary students with high learning needs.
The dual degree programs are designed to give students knowledge and skills across both disciplines, and they prepare leaders who have a rich understanding of working with families and can also design and administer creative programmatic responses to the changing needs of schools and communities.
PL 94-142 requires schools to provide free, appropriate public education to students with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities, and emotional and behavioral disorders.” Schools have to provide the most least restrictive environment” possible.
Although enrollment in special education programs has slightly decreased, better screening and identification of various disabilities in children are expected to affect the demand for special education services. In addition, many special education students find comfort in having a specific plan of action mapping out their entire day. Many states offer general licenses in special education that allow teachers to work with students with a variety of disabilities. Although certainly not ideal, the care and education of children with special needs had improved somewhat. Special education teachers work with students who have a wide variety of mental, emotional, physical, and learning disabilities. SEAC may advise the Board in a range of policy areas pertaining to special education.
We offer degree programs for students who are just beginning their careers as special educators as well as advanced graduate programs for those who have extensive experience and are seeking to help others by discovering and disseminating new evidence about effective practices.
