SHAPE America offers a wide variety of professional development opportunities, including standards-based workshops, webinars, timely podcasts and events for preK-12 educators, college/university faculty, coaches and researchers. Article V: Responsibility in Research and Evaluation Health Educators contribute to the health of the population and to the profession through research and evaluation activities. Community health education is a theory-driven process that promotes health and prevents disease within populations. For each grade from kindergarten through eighth, 50 percent or more of all schools have district or state requirements for students to receive nutrition education. This quality-determination is accomplished by rigorous and systematic evaluation based on valid standards.
Additionally, you will learn how to effectively disseminate published health research data and apply this new knowledge within the field. Working on a college/university campus, health educators are part of a team working to create an environment in which students feel empowered to make healthy choices and create a caring community.
Health educators do community organizing and outreach, grant writing, coalition building, advocacy, and develop, produce, and evaluate mass media health campaigns. You will explore the relationships between human health and environmental contaminants, including those within a workplace.
The Health Education Code of Ethics has been a work in progress since approximately 1976, begun by the Society of Public Health Education (SOPHE). Simulation and human factors education are seen to have a direct impact on patient safety, allowing practitioners to rehearse for practise in a safe and controlled environment. Others choose to enhance their career as part of a higher education team providing pre-registration nursing and midwifery education. Our National Standards for K-12 Physical Education serve as the foundation for well-designed physical education programs across the country.
In this course, students will study the delivery, quality, and costs of health services for individuals, organizations, and populations in a variety of global settings. The major in Community and Public Health provides basic experiences for those interested in preparing for many health and health-related professions.
