Members of the Colorado State Board of Education are charged by the Colorado Constitution with the general supervision of the public schools. Since the state has assumed a large portion of the fiscal responsibility for new school construction, the capital requests must be submitted to the State Interagency Committee and must be approved by the State Board of Public Works. Education is controlled on a state level, which immediately eliminates the worry of having to combat federal bureaucracy to get the problem solved. The Board of School Estimate holds additional public hearings on the budget, and final approval is usually given in early April.
