The Secondary Education program is designed to serve those secondary school teachers who desire to remain classroom teachers. The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) provides information on what federal educational aid is available and which federal laws provide educational rights. Students receive a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree in their content area. The high school is two years of education called Matric which consists of classes 9th and 10th.

The direct authority of the U.S. Congress and the federal U.S. Department of Education is essentially limited to regulation and enforcement of federal constitutional rights. A student can earn a master’s degree simultaneously with teaching certification. A handful of 8-12 middle schools, and 12-16 or 18 secondary schools still exist. Secondary Education is always studied as a double degree, with the partner degree providing the specialist discipline knowledge which you will teach.

While candidates will take a number of education courses in their chosen field of study/major along with content courses, all secondary education majors take a common set of general education and teacher education courses. In addition to the initial certification program, Point Park education students can choose to simultaneously complete the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s requirements for special education certification.
