By submitting this form, I understand and agree that Walden University may contact me via email, text, telephone, and prerecorded message regarding furthering my education and that calls may be generated using automated technology. The truth, however, is that the online space is a better place both for asking questions and for interacting with professors and other students. Distance learning is becoming more popular and so the number of online courses is multiplying, but not all of them offer valid qualifications. Coursera has a broad selection of courses in-session or beginning shortly that you can take for fun or a certificate of completion that shows you’ve learned a new skill. Since its early inception in the 1960s, online education has been constantly criticized for its apparent lack of quality control, particularly the scarcity of high-quality teachers.
In 2012, Stanford, Harvard, and MIT all announced bold efforts to offer online courses to the masses for free with Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from new technology start-ups, Coursera and edX. At AIU, you can choose from 50+ Associate, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programs and specializations allowing you more options. Yet researchers have neglected to ask students whether the continued provision of face-to-face courses is important to them. My offline students get my average 15 minutes; my online students get my best 15 minutes.
The Task Force was also asked to consider impacts beyond MIT and to envision how future technologies and models can provide innovative solutions to problems in higher education. In contrast, questions can be asked at any time in an online lecture, and they do not impede the lecture. Universities may also be required to seek authorization at the program level, which means students living in certain states may be eligible to enroll in some, but not all of an institution’s listed online degree programs. You can experience internationally affiliated online courses in India; delve into the field of your choice and gain vital industry inputs from an accomplished staff. Some students prefer these types of programs because they provide an immediacy and interactivity similar to classroom-based courses. Online education won’t replace traditional undergraduate residential colleges, nor is it likely to replace face-to-face graduate education any time soon.
This paper discusses community college students’ experiences with online and face-to-face learning, as well as their reasons for selecting online versus face-to-face sections of specific courses. I see three principle advantages to online education, 1) leverage, especially of the best teachers; 2) time savings; 3) individualized teaching and new technologies. All it takes is a Google search for such online course, and you’ll easily find the online programs offered by some of the most prestigious universities from all around the world. Even the latest hoopla around massive open online courses (MOOCs) amounts to more of the same: academics designing courses that correspond with their own interests rather than the needs of the workforce, but now doing it online. Comprising 15 Schools, 37 Departments and 10 Centres offering 175 PG & Research Programmes, the University has established itself as a sought after educational institution.
Even so, the data that was released suggests the alleged MOOC progress had more to do with changing the types of students taking the classes (student population”) than with making the MOOCs work better for students. In addition, we are offering these courses at a much more competitive cost than online-only institutions. The benefits of attending accredited online degree programs can extend into the workforce where employers and licensing agencies frequently establish minimum education standards. Our pre-college classes give high school students from around the world the opportunity to explore their creative interests in a fun and focused online environment.
