For more than 100 years, students have come to MTSU for the academics and atmosphere. Additionally, you will learn how to effectively disseminate published health research data and apply this new knowledge within the field. Working on a college/university campus, health educators are part of a team working to create an environment in which students feel empowered to make healthy choices and create a caring community.
In addition to providing education at home on health matters, become an advocate in your school district for appropriate classroom education about puberty, reproduction, AIDS, alcohol and other substance abuse, and other relevant issues. Article III: Responsibility to Employers Health Educators recognize the boundaries of their professional competence and are accountable for their professional activities and actions.
Students investigate ongoing human resources practice and issues from a health care perspective such as recruitment, contract/agreement, training/education/support, retention, performance evaluation, compensation, legal and regulatory issues, and strategic planning.
The Health Educator in Residence representative is a Health Ed peer who lives in residence and is responsible for regular programming, promotion, and participation in health related activities in their residence community. The only accreditation available in this field was for school health and public health professional preparation programs. The Sexual Health team focuses on diverse aspects of sexuality and sexual health such as contraceptives, healthy relationships, safer partying, sexually transmitted infections and sexual pleasure. This chapter provides recommendations and guidelines for maintaining a high quality health education program. These Standards provide the scope and sequence for age appropriate comprehensive health education.
It must be accompanied by similar initiatives focusing on closing the health gap, a challenge well documented by Sir Michael Marmot, the President of the World Medical Association, in his most recent book, The Health Gap. In addition, five years of documented information of practice in health education and two recommendations of past/present supervisors must be provided. Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks. Just as a Community health educator works work toward population health, a school Health educator generally teaches in our Schools.
