Physical Education is an integral part of the total education of every child from Kindergarten through grade 12. Therefore, every student should have the opportunity to participate in a quality physical education program. Prerequisites: Admission to teacher education program; successful completion of YOED 2500, YOED 3000, YOED 3300 with a grade of B or better; overall grade point average maintained at a minimum of 2.75; grade point average in the major at a minimum of 2.50; and senior standing.
WHO defines physical activity as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure – including activities undertaken while working, playing, carrying out household chores, travelling, and engaging in recreational pursuits.
Should do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity throughout the week, or do at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity throughout the week, or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity activity.
The goal of The Howard County Public School System’s Physical Education program is to help prepare students for college and career readiness by developing physically-literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
The Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) requires a total of 480 points over four years covering professional studies, professional practice, PE courses, curriculum studies, education courses and courses from your elected ‘other teachable subject’.
